Mr. Roop is a cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame (B.A. 1985) and an honors graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D. 1991). He is admitted to practice in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Roop's practice has focused in the area of domestic relations and family law since 1996. He has tried countless equitable distribution, support and custody cases. From 1991 to 1996, he was a trial lawyer in Maryland, DC and Virginia in the areas of contract, tort, and malpractice defense. Before law school, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Kongolo, Zaire (now Congo). He has been happily married since 1992 to Anna-Marie Christello-Roop, a graduate of Yale Law School who now helps him run The Roop Law Firm, PLLC. They have two children.
Mr. Roop carries an AV-Preeminent rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register. In 2004-05, Mr. Roop served as Chair of the Standing Committee on Professionalism of the Virginia State Bar. For three years thereafter, he was appointed by the Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of Virginia to serve as a Faculty member at professionalism courses conducted throughout the state. He currently serves on a Virginia State Bar disciplinary committee for evaluating lawyer misconduct. He has twice appeared on the cover of Virginia Lawyers Weekly for groundbreaking work in the areas of spousal support and domicile. In February 2009, Mr. Roop created The Roop Law Firm, PLLC, having spent thirteen years at Condo Roop Kelly & Byrnes and its predecessor(s). He understands the emotional and financial toll of divorce. Mr. Roop brings to the practice of family law, a sense of fairness, substantial trial ability, mathematical aptitude, courtroom ability, experience with children, and a commitment to resolve matters in the best interests of the family.
Ms. Waletich graduate of James Madison University (B.A. 1999) where she earned her bachelors degree cum laude in International Affairs with a minor in Political Science. She earned her law degree cum laude from American University's Washington College of Law (J.D. 2006) where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Business Law Brief, and a member of the Administrative Law Review, the American Bar Association's publication on administrative law. Ms. Waletich served as a Student Attorney in the Civil Practice Clinical Program, where she received the highest-grade award for her fieldwork. In 2005 Ms. Waletich served as legal intern with the Virginia Supreme Court's Office of the Chief Staff Attorney. Ms. Waletich also studied Comparative International Law with the American University's London-Paris-Geneva program.
Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Waletich served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable William T. Newman, Jr., the Honorable Benjamin N.A. Kendrick, the Honorable Joanne F. Alper, and the Honorable James F. Almand of the Arlington County Circuit Court, 17th Judicial Circuit of Virginia. Ms. Waletich then joined Condo Roop Kelly & Byrnes, PC as an associate. In 2009, Ms. Waletich helped create The Roop Law Firm, PLLC, with David E. Roop, Jr.
Prior to law school Ms. Waletich worked for The Washington Post and Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive as an Advertising Account Executive from 1999 until 2003, where she was awarded the President's Club in 2001 and 2002.
Ms. Waletich was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and is a University of Nebraska football fan.

Mrs. Babounakis earned her bachelors degree in Social Work from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona (B.S.W. 1994) and her Masters of Social Work from the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia (M.S.W. 1998). She achieved her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from New York Law School, in New York, New York (J.D. 2005) and was an Academic Merit Scholarship recipient. Mrs. Babounakis is admitted to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Prior to attending law school, Mrs. Babounakis practiced as a clinical social worker with a focus in family counseling and crisis management. As a law student, Mrs. Babounakis served as both Chief Aide to Professor Nadine Strossen, the then President of the American Civil Liberties Union, and as an Associate Editor to the New York Law School Law Review. After law school, Mrs. Babounakis practiced law for five years at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen, and Hamilton, LLP in Washington D.C. Her practice there focused on investigations, public interest and commercial litigation, and immigration law, including an asylum appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
In December 2009, Mrs. Babounakis joined The Roop Law Firm, PLLC to utilize her expertise in family counseling, corporate law, and litigation. While she believes that settling family law cases is a preferable outcome for individuals and their families, Mrs. Babounakis can apply her litigation experience when necessary to promote the best interests of her clients. Mrs. Babounakis can also draw on her family counseling experience to help clients manage the emotional experiences that are often present in family law cases and she can utilize her corporate law experience to aid in the equitable distribution of assets.
Mrs. Babounakis is a native of Northern Virginia. Her husband is a lawyer with Arnold & Porter, LLP. They have a daughter and live in Washington, D.C.
